As part of our #inthistogetherky campaign, today RE/MAX Cayman Islands made a CI$2,000 donation to One Dog at a Time. In addition, we will match any donation to One Dog at a Time using #inthistogetherky up to an additional CI$2,000.
One Dog at a Time (ODAAT) is a foster based dog rescue group based in Grand Cayman which started its work towards the end of 2013 when they realized the extent of the pet overpopulation in The Cayman Islands. They gained their non-profit status in 2017. All of their board members bring different skills and interests to the table with the one thing they have in common being their desire to rescue and re-home unwanted dogs and puppies.
One Dog at a Time rescues unwanted dogs and puppies from the streets and from the Department Of Agriculture pound. At DOA pound dogs that are found on the streets or surrendered by their owners are at risk of euthanasia. They raise funds through their fundraising events and donations to cover the costs of vetting the dogs, spaying and neutering them and treating for heart worm or other issues such as ringworm (when needed). Their funds also pay for collars and leashes, dog crates, dog bowls, poop bags and other items needed as well as covering the costs of food and Heartgard whilst in foster homes. The funds raised also pay for dogs to be flown to our rescue partners in New York, Tampa and Toronto. They work with other rescue groups in Cayman most commonly the Cayman Islands Humane Society taking dogs from to fly off island. Currently, One Dog at a Time rescues and re-homes between 10 and 20 dogs a month and on average have 10-15 on our books at any one time. They need to raise at least $4000 each month to cover these costs and have some wonderful community partners who work with them to help them raise these funds.
Together we will get through this. #inthistogetherky
